[During his peaceful sewing too! Sorry Zelkov, but for a few minutes you’re about to be in the headspace of Billy Butcher.]

[Your wife has been missing since January. None of Becca’s family members know where she went, and her workplace won’t tell you anything either. It’s suspicious that a hero-managing company like Vought wouldn’t have questions about a social media manager stopping coming to work out of nowhere. Still, you’re basically a civilian at the moment, so what can you do?

You aren’t sure, until an older woman in a suit knocks on the door of your apartment one day.]

Don’t want none, fuck off.

I’m here about your wife.

[You hear that, and decide to invite her in. There aren’t any other options and this is the only person who seems to know anything about Becca.

The woman opens her laptop and shows you security camera footage from Vought Tower.]

I believe this was a few days after you met Homelander at that Christmas party?

[Homelander. Right, the spandex guy who looked the most Yankee an American could get–the flag was on his fucking cape. Hard to forget the guy.

You see him on the computer screen now, leading someone into an office room. No, not someone. That’s Becca he’s lightly pushing towards the room and then closing the door behind.]

She was alone with him for three hours.

[The woman jumps ahead in the footage. Becca leaves the room alone, and she looks disturbed: her hair is undone, her jacket is removed, and she holds one of her heels in her hand before putting it back on and looking around. It’s difficult to see the look in her eyes, but she turns her head as if frightened of something, and starts to leave.

You know what must have happened to her. This must have been why she’d come home that day so distressed but refused to talk about it, why she had been so uncharacteristically withdrawn in the days leading up to her disappearance. You don’t need the woman to tell you what happened to know.]

Not long after that, Rebecca went missing and has remained so ever since. One way or another, Mr. Butcher, I believe Homelander was involved.

Homelander.

[Is she saying that she thinks Homelander killed her? At the very least he had been the motivation for Rebecca deciding to disappear–or being forced to.]

But he’s a fucking superhero.

You wouldn’t believe what they get up to.

[The woman says so with a world-weary sort of knowledge of a veteran. How long have superheroes been this specific type of despicable, and how deep does the corruption go? Are they all just monsters put on the pedestals of gods?

You have a lot of questions, but one is more urgent than the rest.]

Who the fuck are you?

[She shows you a CIA badge.]

My name is Mallory. I’m the person who can get you payback.
