[ while other people seem to be spending much of their time at the aviary running from enraged geese, zelkov is quietly seated on a bench with a pad of paper and some pens, sketching the pair of parrots that are chilling in the tree in front of him. ]
[ if he paid close enough attention, vergilius may have noticed zelkov straightening up slightly even before he got close, an unseen presence immediately putting him on guard. ]
Thank you.
[ relaxing again slightly — though still more guarded than before — he adds some hatching to one of the long tail feathers. ]
I had few opportunities to see such colorful fauna in my homeland. I thought I should at least take advantage of this opportunity so long as I am here.
No, I am partial to smaller songbirds. But coming from Elusia, there is a certain novelty to tropical species like this... and I suppose I do have a particular fondness for the combination of colors on the smaller of the pair.
Those rich ruby and sapphire tones — so often used in art to symbolize a clash of diametrically opposed personalities, but here existing side by side in perfect harmony — are the colors borne by a person of great importance in my world.
At least socially speaking, I would say things are actually much more straightforward for her than for any of the royals of our world.
With no real kingdom of her own she lacks the political pressure other leaders tend to face... though of course she does have plenty of other pressures of her own.
She is very kind, warm, and unassuming, as well as curious and playful. I had not been accustomed to having anyone show such interest in my pursuits before, but she always seems eager to hear what went into each work.
[ shading in her eyes in his sketch, one darker than the other. ]
After each battle we fight, she goes around the field collecting stray animals to bring back with us. While we have no birds like these, we do have a pair of flamingos in the farmyard.
[ it is a sight to behold. ]
I've seldom had to worry about growing bored since joining her.

[The colorful parrots...seems far from the goth vibes Zelkov gives off, but who knows.]

[ wow i wonder why, it is a mystery ]

[Fondness, huh....he's squinting at the colors to try to understand, but well, he just doesn't. Oh well.]
Why the colors in particular?

Is it that Ivy you're bodyguarding at home?

[ with a sweeping gesture at that female parrot, who does not know what's going on. ]
These are the colors of the Divine Dragon. An outward reflection of the union of her Fell heritage and Divine heart.

[what the heck is a divine dragon]
Mm. A god of yours or something?

[ he'll set the parrot drawing aside for a moment and flip to another page to start sketching one of the most anime-looking girls imaginable ]

[THAT IS VERY. ANIME ALRIGHT. Okay.]
Does it get in the way of things? Being such a big deal and yet being on your level.
